The Men's Suit Dress

So I was shopping around GoodWill for clothes to use as fabric and I had this amazing idea for a dress made out of a men's suit jacket.
Here is the jacket:

It is an extra large. I chose a pattern by McCalls for a fitted dress that has a bit of a business look to it and went to work. The way the jacket was made, really forced me to be creative when laying out my pattern. You bet I used just about every scrap of fabric on that sucker. I used as many original features of the jacket as I could. The pockets, sleeve buttons, the front opening and even the original hem on the bottom. I also used a regular white button up blouse I hadn't worn in years to make the top.

Here is what was left of the jacket when I was done

And here is the final product!!!

A Little Background on ReFashion

ReFashioning is basically taking something old, reworking it, and vuala! You have something new. I like to sew, so refashioning clothes is something I really enjoy doing. I mostly go to Good Will, but over sized clothing, and basically use them for fabric. A few perks of doing this, fabric is expensive and Good Will has dollar clothing. I am not very good at having perfect finishes on clothing, and using some already finished seams and hems makes sewing alot easier for me. Its also taking something old and making it shiny and new again!

So this blog will cover the journey my Good Will clothes make to become new clothes of my own design.
